Q:Thanks for the info. I know a group of people I hang around with in mumble, and about 4-5 of them know and play DayZ (with some custom maps there, too). I'll consider it after exams.

Q:Topic of DayZ. Do you know/think when dayz will go standalone? I don't want to blow $20-30 on arma 2 just so I can play DayZ, but I want to play DayZ.

If you’re holding your breath for the standalone I wouldn’t. Nobody actually knows when its coming out right now, and it definitely isn’t soon I don’t think. As for Arma Dayz, there really won’t be a difference between standalone and Arma, they’re adding some mechanics and tweeking some things, but its almost the same shitt engine, they’re not going to be using the Arma3 engine, which is loads better.

Should I buy Arma2 for Dayz?

If you want, right now is a really bad time to be new to DayZ in my opinion. I feel like the only people who still enjoy it are the oldfags who have been playing since it came out, and are nostalgic of how it was before the player base went to shit, I still play in that regard. If you can  find a group of people to play with who won’t fuck it up for you, by all means, its still a fucking BLAST with the right people.

Are you going to be able to play without paying for arma? No. Not unless someone gifts it to you on steam anyways.
